Predators gear up

Director Nimrod Antal (VACANCY) is the guy bringing the extraterrestrial headhunters back to screens with PREDATORS, which is officially getting underway at Troublemaker Studios in Austin on September 28th, according to Production Weekly.

With things coming together relatively quickly (in order to make Fox’s planned release date of July 7, 2010), expect to hear casting announcements soon. And according to Bloody Disgusting, you can expect to see ‘a “Black”, “Asian”, “Russian” and “Latino” marine‘ among the humans.

Producer Robert Rodriguez already described the sequel as a “character driven action movie” that “involves a very intense group of people stranded on a Predator planet discovering unspeakable horrors (that are not always from outside their group).”

And a good sign for fans of practical effects — Rodriguez regulars and expert monster-makers KNB EFX are handling the crab-faced aliens, according to STYD. KNB’s Greg Nicotero and Howard Berger actually worked on John McTiernan’s 1987 original.
