There’s an exorcism horror film coming our way from Lionsgate, Gold Circle Entertainment, and Confluence that we’ve been keeping track of for a couple years now. Directed by Daniel Stamm (The Last Exorcism) from a screenplay by Robert Zappia (Halloween H20), this project was once known as The Devil’s Light and was expected to reach theatres back in February. That release date came and went, but Lionsgate just announced that the film – now titled Prey for the Devil – will be in theatres this Halloween. (The specific release date in the UK is October 28th.) To start building the hype, a trailer and posters for the film have been released online. You can watch the trailer in the embed above and check out the posters at the bottom of this article.

Prey for the Devil has the following synopsis:

In response to a global rise in demonic possessions, the Catholic Church reopens exorcism schools to train priests in the Rite of Exorcism. On this spiritual battlefield, an unlikely warrior rises: a young nun, Sister Ann. Although nuns are forbidden to perform exorcisms, a professor recognizes Sister Ann’s gifts and agrees to train her. Thrust onto the spiritual frontline with fellow student Father Dante, Sister Ann finds herself in a battle for the soul of a young girl (who Sister Ann believes is possessed by the same demon that tormented her own mother years ago), and soon realizes the Devil has her right where he wants her….and it wants in.

In addition to Candyman‘s Virginia Madsen, who plays a character named Dr. Peters, the film stars Jacqueline Byers (Salvation) as Sister Ann, Colin Salmon (Die Another Day) as the professor Father Quinn, and Christian Navarro (13 Reasons Why) as Father Dante. Nicholas Ralph (All Creatures Great and Small), and Ben Cross (Dark Shadows) are also in the cast. Cross passed away in August of 2020, soon after production on Prey for the Devil wrapped.

The film was produced by Paul Brooks, Todd R. Jones, Earl Richey Jones, and Jessica Malanaphy, with David Brooks, Brad Kessell, Scott Niemeyer, and Michael P. Flannigan serving as executive producers.
