Pride and Prejudice and Zombies lives with Burr Steers, Lily James & more

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Yikes! It's been almost 15 months to the day since hearing any news on PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES, but all that changes today…

Deadline is reporting that Cross Creek Pictures recently acquired domestic films rights to the Seth Grahame-Smith bestseller, with Burr Steers (IGBY GOES DOWN) set to direct when principal photography begins next month. British actors Lily James (seen right) and Sam Riley, as well as Aussie actress Bella Heathcoate (below) have been chosen to star in the long-awaited film adaptation.

Co-scripted with Steers by David O. Russell, PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES:

Opens as a mysterious plague has fallen upon the quiet English village of Meryton-and the dead are returning to life! Feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet is determined to wipe out the zombie menace, but she’s soon distracted by the arrival of the haughty and arrogant Mr. Darcy. What ensues is a delightful comedy of manners with plenty of civilized sparring between the two young lovers-and even more violent sparring on the blood-soaked battlefield as Elizabeth wages war against hordes of flesh-eating undead."

As you may know, P&P&Z has been through a long slog. Many companies, writers and directors have been attached to the project since the book splashed on the masses in '09. Everyone from Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson, Mia Wasikowska and Anne Hathaway to Craig Gillespie, Mike White and O. Russell himself have been attached at one time or another. Hopefully, with shooting slated for next month, this one actually sticks.

Question is, do you still have any interest in a PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES movie anymore?
