Update: Christian Slater, others join the cast of Netflix’s We Can Be Heroes

Update: Mere hours after announcing that Priyanka Chopra Jonas will star in Netflix's WE CAN BE HEROES for Robert Rodriguez, it's been confirmed that several other players are suiting up for the superhero spectacle. According to Deadline, MR. ROBOT alum Christian Slater has joined the cast, as have Yaya Gosselin of THE PURGE, and Akira Akbar (CAPTAIN MARVEL, THIS IS US).

In addition to Slater, Gosselin, Akbar and the previously announced Priyanka Chopra-Jonas, WE CAN BE HEROES has also invited Andrew Diaz, Andy Walken (THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT), Boyd Holbrook (LOGAN), Hala Finley (BACK ROADS), Isaiah Russell-Bailey (SWAT), Lotus Blossom )MAGIC MAX), Lyon Daniels (PATRIOT), Nathan Blair (FX;s LEGION), Sung Kang (BETTER LUCK TOMORROW), Vivien Lyra Blair (BIRD BOX), Adriana Barraza (DORA AND THE LOST CITY OF GOLD), Christopher McDonald (WETLANDS) and Pedro Pascal (WONDER WOMAN 1984, NARCOS) to be a part of the action.

Robert Rodriguez, the filmmaker behind such films as PLANET TERROR, MACHETE and ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL has found the star of his Netflix-bound superhero movie WE CAN BE HEROES in actress Priyanka Chopra-Jonas. Rodriguez will write, direct, and produce the new project, which finds alien invaders kidnapping Earth’s superheroes, meaning a group of children have to team up to save their parents and the world. WE CAN BE HEROES is currently in production with Rodriguez looking to build the endeavor as something just as bombastic as ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL or his SPY KIDS franchise.

Ever since she was cast as Priya for director A. Majid's THAMIZHAN, Chopra-Jonas has continued to climb the Hollywood/Bollywood ladder by appearing in many film, television and video game projects. Her most notable role is as Alex Parrish for the TV series QUANTICO. She also starred alongside Rebel Wilson as Isabella in the 2019 rom-com ISN'T IT ROMANTIC. Recently, she wrapped her part in Shonali Bose's THE SKY IS PINK, and is currently filming GANGUBAI, a Bollywood joint from Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

As for Rodriguez, he's hard at work while putting the finishing touches on the third season of Netflix's animated SPY KIDS spinoff series SPY KIDS: MISSION CRITICAL.
