Here’s a collaboration I did not expect. Ben Stiller (Meet the Fockers, Zoolander, Severance) and Mike Judge (King of the Hill, Office Space, Beavis and Butt-Head) are joining forces for a new comedy series at Apple TV, currently titled Protective Custody. The newly announced project finds Stiller in the lead role as “a disgraced financier accused of massive fraud who is thrown into protective custody, where he must navigate prison politics, salvage his reputation, and confront the consequences of his actions while awaiting trial,” according to the logline.
Who are the creative forces behind Protective Custody?
Judge is co-writing the series alongside Steve Hely (Common Side Effects, Veep, The Office) and Dave King (Parks and Recreation). The trio will executive produce Protective Custody, with Judge also lined up to direct. Stiller is also an executive producer through Red Hour. John Lesher of Red Hour also executive produces, as does Ben Silverman, Howard Owens, and Rodney Ferrell of Propagate Content. Michael Rotenberg and Oly Obst executive produce for 3 Arts Entertainment. Nanette Burstein is also an executive producer. If Protective Custody gets picked up for a series, it will mark Stiller’s second Apple TV project, as he plans to star in The Off Weeks.
It’s only A Matter of Time for Stiller
Stiller is making plenty of moves after signing on to star alongside Nicholas Galitzine (Masters of the Universe, Red, White, & Royal Blue), and Bella Maclean (Rivals, Sex Education) in Harry Bradbeer’s upcoming film A Matter of Time. Bradbeer directs the film from a script by Justin Haythe, Madeleine George, Peter Byrne, and Simon Beaufoy. According to the film’s description, A Matter of Time focuses on an “unlikely angel” who ventures from heaven to encourage a reclusive man to give up his life for the betterment of society. Although the man agrees, the encounter gives his life new focus and leads him to a romance that could alter the course of history.
Stiller’s ready to get Focked-up
Stiller’s Focker-in-Law sequel is in post-production, with Robert De Niro, Ariana Grande, Owen Wilson, Teri Polo, Beanie Feldstein, and Skyler Gisondo leading the cast. In the upcoming comedy, a young man named Henry (Gisondo), son of Greg and Pam Focker, faces family chaos when he decides to marry a strong-willed woman (Grande) who appears to be his complete mismatch.
