Punisher 2 gets off the fence

I’m sure that there are a plethora
of you out there that won’t agree with me on this but THE PUNISHER (the one with
Thomas Jane, not
Dolph Lundgren) was extremely disappointing. Personally the
reason that I was most disappointed with it was the fact that it failed to go
dark enough to really show what the Punisher is all about.

That being said, the latest news on
PUNISHER 2 looks somewhat promising. MTV recently spoke with Thomas Jane about
his upcoming Stephen King adaptation THE MIST, and after spewing what he had to
say about that, he also had this to say about PUNISHER 2:

The script comes in a couple
of weeks, and it’s going to be darker, bloodier and more unfriendly than the
first one.”

God I only hope that’s true. Jane
also spoke recently with SciFi Wire about the new flick and had this to say to
them: “I’ve been in the gym for seven weeks now,
I’ve already put on 12 pounds of muscle. They want to start going before the end
of the year…”There’s so much new ground to be broken. The potential for

The Punisher
— especially when it comes to the
real juicy stuff — should go more in the direction of a gritty, urban street
drama like Taxi Driver rather than a glossy, fantasy direction
like the

X-Men

Well I guess showing up at Lions
Gate Studios after a fifth of Scotch with my pants around my ankles screaming
out comic book references must have worked because it seems like PUNISHER 2 may
be getting off the fence and into my booze filled heart.
