Punisher 2 update!

With the great Thomas Jane departing ways with THE PUNISHER 2, I haven’t had much reason to jump on board this sequel’s train. Yes, new director Lexi Alexander seems competent enough, and sure, the new Punisher Ray Stevenson has the right ‘look’ for the role, but… seeing as Jane was on board and then left because he wasn’t down with the script and the direction of where things were going… well, that just doesn’t sit well with me.

Variety announced today that filming for P2 will begin in October, with locations in New York City (among other places), as the story (as brief as they’ve given it) goes something like this: The Punisher battles the mob in NYC. No joke, that’s all we have to work with here.

The weird thing is that this announcement keeps calling this an ‘overhaul’, ‘a new franchise’ and ‘a third screen incarnation’ of the beloved Frank Castle… and never once, after re-reading it a 15th time, do they call it THE PUNISHER 2. They’re just calling it THE PUNISHER. Hmmm. See what I mean? Weird.

Maybe they’re going into this as if the first two movies never existed. I can see them doing that to Dolph Lundgren’s 80s attempt, but ignoring Jane’s bout as THE PUNISHER from only 3 years ago… that just seems a little odd to me. Do we really need another origins story here?

Hard to tell what the f*ck is going on at this point, but you know we’ll be following this story like stink on shite. Stick around. Oh, and if you wanna try interpreting the article in Variety, click HERE, then spit some bullets below and give us your take.
