In a rather interesting chat with Fangoria with what was supposed to be about his film with Robert Rodriguez in GRINDHOUSE, Quentin Tarantino touched on topics from the past that he was rumoured to have been involved with. Like the EVIL DEAD remake, for starters.
“[The opportunity to direct] got thrown my way that [Sam Raimi] was interested in talking to me about it,” Tarantino explains. “Just for posterity’s sake, I had to stop and think about it. It’s just so his thing, though. I couldn’t see why he wasn’t doing it himself. It’s like, some things I could look at and say, ‘I could do this.’ I could look at the first FRIDAY THE 13TH and say, ‘Yeah, I know what to do with this.’ EVIL DEAD, I couldn’t do better than that! And my mind doesn’t lean toward the evil book stuff anyway, you know what I mean? The Book of the Dead, that’s not where my mind goes, but I loved it in THE EVIL DEAD.”
Also in the interview, another topic came up with regards to HALLOWEEN 6, which Tarantino and Scott Spiegel (co-writer of EVIL DEAD 2) wrote drafts for. “It was one of those things where Scottie was bringing me along and I was the one who put two and two together and come up with at least the first couple of scenes.” Having to work with the mess that HALLOWEEN 5 left on the series, Tarantino did have some interesting ideas, but those ultimately went south (as did the series, for that matter).
