Quentin Tarantino on the Pulp Fiction prequel that never was

Pulp Fiction, Quentin Tarantino

PULP FICTION celebrated its 25th anniversary this year, and there was a time when Quentin Tarantino was considering following up the film with a prequel. Those plans have long since passed, but the director shed a little light on the abandoned project while speaking with CinemaBlend.

Titled DOUBLE V VEGA, the prequel would have starred John Travolta as Vincent Vega and Michael Madsen as Vic Vega, but Tarantino said that contrary to popular belief, the project never grew beyond a simple premise. "The only thing I did know was the premise, I don't think I took it far enough for a story, but I had a premise. It would’ve taken place in Amsterdam, during the time Vincent was in Amsterdam," Tarantino said. "He was running some club for Marsellus [Wallace] in Amsterdam, he was probably there for a couple years, so at some point during his two years spent running that club, Vic shows up to visit him, and it would’ve been their weekend. Exactly what happened to them or what trouble they got into, I never took it that far." If you recall, Vincent famously brought up Amsterdam during a conversation with Jules Winnfield (Samuel L. Jackson) in PULP FICTION. When the idea of using digital de-aging technology was brought up in order to bring the prequel to life, Tarantino shot it down, saying, "I don't think so, there is a shelf life."

While DOUBLE V VEGA may have been abandoned, Quentin Tarantino is still talking about KILL BILL VOL. 3, recently telling MTV's Happy Sad Confused podcast that he's spoken about it with Uma Thurman. "Me and Uma have talked about it recently, frankly, to tell you the truth," said Tarantino. "I have thought about it a little further. We were talking about it literally last week. If any of my movies were going to spring from my other movies, it would be a third 'Kill Bill.'"

ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD will hit theaters on July 26th.
