Raimi’s Evil Remake

Now I’ve seen it all. Selling out on a grandmaster scale. I would never, in a million years, guess that this day would come. But as The Arrow puts it, this is the FINAL sign to the impending Apocalypse- THE END OF THE WORLD IS NEAR!!!!

Yes, I am talking of the sad news that Sam Raimi, Rob
Tapert and Bruce Campbell are collaborating once again- this time, to do a REMAKE of THE EVIL DEAD!!!! Ghost House Pictures (who brought us THE GRUDGE) has plans to re-make the splatter-fest cult classic, with neither Raimi returning to direct, nor Campbell returning to star- their rolls are reduced to primarily being producers on this project.

” ‘The Evil Dead’ is such a special film to Sam, Rob, Bruce and horror
fans that we are going to take great care in renewing this franchise,”

said Joe Drake, Senator Intl. prexy. ” “By keeping its original formula
intact and given audiences’ appetite for horror, we expect that we’ll
have a real hit on our hands.”

Those Mother F*ckers. If this is what happens when horror begins to bring in the big bucks (i.e., assf*cking classics to make another hit, and bring in more money), then count me out! I’ll wait for video to enjoy the genre that gives me so much pleasure to watch. Then maybe, just maybe, the remakes won’t make any money, and these executives will stop remaking the old, and look for something new.

At one point, I really respected Raimi as a director, and thought he was a genius. Even when he decided to do the SPIDER MAN films, I stuck by him. But now, with this…. he definitely lost me (and I doubt I’m the only one). They’re looking for a director as we speak, and will then produce a script once a director is found (!).
