Ramis talks GB3

Egon Spengler may spend his downtime collecting spores, molds and fungus, but he’s also giving advice to the next generation of spirit-grabbers.

Actor-director Harold Ramis confirms what has been suspected about the planned GHOSTBUSTERS 3 — namely that it will feature the old guard will remain in reserve while a whole new team of proton-pack carriers handles the heavy duty. “We’re going to be the sage mentors,” Ramis tells MTV. “There are going to be young Ghostbusters.”

A script is still being pieced together by THE OFFICE” (US) co-exec producers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, who also penned Ramis’ latest directing effort YEAR ONE. Dan Aykroyd and GHOSTBUSTERS director Ivan Reitman are consulting along with Ramis.

Whether it comes together in a way that will appease fans of the original is the question, particularly when it comes to Bill Murray, who Ramis says is “just waiting for the truckload of money to arrive to get him out of his office.” (He also admits he hasn’t actually spoken to him about it, stating “I think we just need a script, because he’s the thorniest of the group.”)

Meanwhile, it looks like the closest to an actual sequel we’ll get for a while is this:
