[Rec] director’s next

One of the two directors of [REC] is branching out on his own for an English-Language thriller entitled FLATMATE. (Not to be confused with THE ROOMMATE, currently shooting with Leighton Meester and Minka Kelly; at least I don’t think it’s already being remade). Unfortunately, at the moment very little is known about the project, other than Jaume Balagueró (pictured right) is directing, the screenplay is by Alberto Marini, who produced [REC] and the upcoming [REC]2, and it takes place in New York City.

Balagueró has teamed with Paco Plaza on both [REC] films (the second of which is being released in Spain in October), but has a track record of directing films on his own, such as 2004’s DARKNESS. We’ll keep you updated as soon as we learn more about this flick, but something tells me it deals with a nefarious, or perhaps ghostly, flatmate. Call it a hunch.
