Looks like Uwe Boll’s video game fetish continues. The rights to HUNTER: THE RECKONING were picked up by Brightlight Pictures with Mr. Boll attached to direct. While the concept sounds boringly like another Resident Evil – town teeming with undead baddies – a closer look at the game site reveals a lot of very exciting possibilities for the movie. First off, we’re not just talkin’ Zombies. They’ve got Vampires up in this mofo, too. All the specifics for the game can be found HERE, including a nice bit of back-story and cool concept art.
The real shining ray of hope emanating from this egg, though, is the presence of four well defined, kick ass Hunters as protagonists. The weakness of some of these video game knock offs we’ve been getting is the absence of characters we give a shit about. Killing the undead is cool, sure, but who would you rather root for? Some look alike leading man/woman drone, or your pissed off sister – fed up with the insanity – ready to let those evil f*ckers have it! With a priest, a biker, a raver, and a cop (short shorts, leg length tattoo – NICE!), they’ve really covered their bases. Eye candy, fun time weapons (giant axe, holy water dipped crossbow – oooh, shivers), and a supernatural storyline of evil vs. good with a solid mythology behind it – Whoo Boy! This is one undead corpse I’m gonna keep an eye on til it jumps outta the ground and comes after me moaning “Brains”.
