The red-band trailer and poster for Ti West's THE SACRAMENT have debuted, taking the found footage genre into the world of religious cults. Starring Joe Swanberg, AJ Bowen, Amy Seimetz, and Gene Jones, the flick is a take on real-life cults, much like the Jonestown massacre. West describes the film as a bit of a "mockumentary" although not in the comedic sense. Watching the trailer certainly doesn't bring on the giggles, that's for sure, as being in the faux cult "Eden Parish" doesn't look like fun. Like, at all.

Take a look:

West has had some considerable success with his brand of horror flicks, including THE HOUSE OF THE DEVIL, CABIN FEVER 2: SPRING FEVER, and THE INNKEEPERS. While I'm not as keen to the genre as others are, I certainly like a good scare now and then and THE SACRAMENT looks like some good fun in that department. As a non-horror expert, I have to relent to the hardcore fans when it comes to what the best offerings are, so I'll leave it to you guys. Is this can't-miss genre material or Netflix queue material?

THE SACRAMENT hits VOD on May 1, 2014 and limited theaters on June 6, 2014.
