Dunno if this is huge news or not (probably not, but it’s a slow-ass day) but Kevin Smith announced on News ASkew that his “horror” flick RED STATE is all finished, and it’s – thankfully – short on dialogue.
It is written.
Finished “Red State” today.
Shortest flick (in terms of page count) that I ever wrote. Least amount of dialogue, too (not to say there’s no dialogue; just that there’s about half as much as I normally write).
Unlike any other script I’ve ever authored, to say the least. Very fucked up. If I’d never said anything about it in the press and put it out under a pseudonym, I doubt anyone would ever connect me with it.
Can’t wait to shoot it.
It’s encouraging to hear that it’s so vastly different from his other films, because I don’t know how much more he can mine the same territory. I’m not a hater – but I haven’t enjoyed anything of his since CHASING AMY; in fact a few of his movies have been downright insufferable. Must say I’m intrigued by this new project, although unfortunately he’s got something called ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO up first, which will probably be overflowing with naughty, envelope-pushing words like “cock.”
