For some, the number 13 is very unlucky. Whether it’s because of a certain Friday, or it’s because it’s the number of beers one can drink before hugging the porcelain at the local watering hole. Either way, 13 doesn’t have that lucky feel to it… except, of course, if you’re a Weinstein – then you’re banking on the number 13 to make you lots of moola.
The Weinstein Co. just snagged the remake rights to the psychological thriller 13, from Thailand’s Sahamongkolfilm, the same dudes who gave us ONG-BAK. The original was about a guy on a reality TV show ala ‘Fear Factor’… except he doesn’t know there’s an audience, and the things the players on this show do to win are a bit questionable.
Haven’t seen the original, so I can’t tell you if it’s worth remaking or not, but I must say I like the storyline here, as Reality TV is everywhere these days- and ‘Fear Factor’ is just gross, so it’ll be interesting on what they come up with here.
Director Chookiat Sakveerakul (EVIL) will be directing. It’s to note that this is different than the 13 TZAMETI remake that’s also called 13. I guess they’ll most likely change the title a bit on one of them, but maybe not. The flick sounds a bit like THE RUNNING MAN, but with actual tasks to perform and an audience unknown… ok, so it sounds nothing like THE RUNNING MAN, except that it’s a demented Reality TV/Game Show. Ah well. No word on casting as of yet, but we’ll keep ya in the loop as soon as we hear it!
