Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, writer/director Johannes Roberts‘ reboot of the Resident Evil film franchise, is currently available to watch on VOD – you can rent it through Amazon Prime right now – and will be coming to 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD release on February 8th. You can get information on the physical media release at THIS LINK, and pre-order copies on Amazon. Those are the ways you can see the movie, but if you’re interested in knowing about some things that were designed for the movie but didn’t end up on the screen, you’ll be interested to see what was shared to Applied Arts FX Studio’s Instagram account.

Applied Arts FX posted a batch of concept art that was created by Daniel Carrasco, letting followers know that they were showing off “lots of concept stuff that was in the works at various times for an earlier version of the script, and some alternative ideas. Hardly touches on the design work Daniel Carrasco did with us on (Resident Evil) over several months last year.” This concept art gives a look at different designs for some characters and creatures that did appear in Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, while revealing that things that didn’t make it to the screen – like a spider monster and the Tyrant creature known as Mr. X – must have been mentioned in an earlier draft of the script.

Directly based on the first two Resident Evil video games, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City has the following synopsis:

Once the booming home of pharmaceutical giant Umbrella Corporation, Raccoon City is now a dying Midwestern town. The company’s exodus left the city a wasteland… with great evil brewing below the surface. When that evil is unleashed, the townspeople are forever… changed… and a small group of survivors must work together to uncover the truth behind Umbrella and make it through the night.

The film stars Robbie Amell as Chris Redfield, Kaya Scodelario as Claire Redfield, Avan Jogia as Leon Kennedy, Tom Hopper as Albert Wesker, Hannah John-Kamen as Jill Valentine, Neal McDonough as William Birkin, Donal Logue as Chief Brian Irons, Chad Rook as Richard Aiken, Lily Gao as Ada Wong, Marina Mazepa as Lisa Trevor, and Nathan Dale as Brad Vickers.
