Return to Wonderland in the first Alice Through The Looking Glass posters

At D23 today, Johnny Depp was inducted as a Disney Legend along with George Lucas and several others. Depp has been a powerhouse for Disney thanks to the PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN franchise and Tim Burton‘s ALICE IN WONDERLAND. We won’t talk about the bath Disney took on THE LONE RANGER. Before he becomes Captain Jack Sparrow one more time, Depp will return to Wonderland as the Mad Hatter in next year’s ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS.

The first teaser posters have been revealed for the James Bobin directed sequel that shows us Mia Wasikowska and Depp at a distance. There are some Dali-esque melted clocks but not much else in terms of the whimsy created by Burton for the first film. The 2010 film was the first 3D release after James Cameron‘s AVATAR reinvigorated the format as it went on to gross a billion dollars worldwide.

The sequel will follow the second book by Lewis Carroll while also seeing the return of Helena Bonham Carter and Anne Hathaway along with Alan Rickman, Rhys Ifans, and Sacha Baron Cohen. I found the first film to be incredibly overrated and kind of boring, something I never thought I would say about a Tim Burton movie. I am not setting the bar too high for the second one.

ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS opens May 27, 2016.
