We’ve been keeping you pretty abreast with the casting of Frank Darabont’s AMC zombie series “The Walking Dead” for a couple weeks now. Jon Bernthal was the first to join the much anticipated Robert Kirkman adaptation. Three days later we heard swirling rumors of one Johnny Lee Miller in talks to portray Rick Grimes, the ultra-badass sheriff who leads a group of survivors after a zombie apocalypse swallows the globe. Well folks, looks like Lee Miller is out as Rick Grimes. Andrew Lincoln is in!
Doing yeoman’s work in television dating back to 1997, Lincoln is probably best known for his work on “Teachers,” “Afterlife” and most recently “Strike Back.” And you know you’re in like Flynt when the author of the original comic book gives you such a ringing endorsement:
“Andrew Lincoln, wow — what an amazing find this guy is. Writing Rick Grimes month after month in the comic series, I had no idea he was an actual living breathing human being and yet here he is. I couldn’t be more thrilled with how this show is coming together” (Robert Kirkman).
Joel Stillerman, SVP of original programming, production and digital content, also weighed in:
“Andrew is an incredibly gifted actor. He has the presence and attitude to bring this character and story to life. We are thrilled that he is joining the cast.”
And there ya have it…looks like “The Walking Dead” is coming together nicely. Even more of a reason to check this shite out when it hits AMC this October.
Synopsis: An epidemic of apocalyptic proportions has swept the globe, causing the dead to rise and feed on the living. In a matter of months, society has crumbled: There is no government, no grocery stores, no mail delivery, no cable TV. Rick Grimes finds himself one of the few survivors in this terrifying future. A couple months ago he was a small town cop who had never fired a shot and only ever saw one dead body. Separated from his family, he must now sort through all the death and confusion to try and find his wife and son. In a world ruled by the dead, we are forced to finally begin living.
Our condolences to Angie Jolie’s former hubby Johnny Lee Miller!
