Despite some murmurings to the contrary awhile back, it looks like there is no chance of Ridley Scott returning in any significant capacity for an ALIEN 5.
In an interview with the SciFi Channel about ANDROMEDA STRAIN, a four-hour miniseries remake that Scott is Executive Producing, he makes it clear that he still loves genre work, but has no interest in revisiting the ALIEN franchaise. Here’s what he said:
“There’s been such an abundance of science fiction genres that I like to think it’s not used up. But, as I said earlier, it’s all about the written word. It’s all about what’s on paper.”
But Scott added there’s one SF story he doesn’t want to revist: a fifth film in the Alien series. “No,” he said with finality. “I think they’ve wrung it dry.”
So there you go. Of course, he may just be a cool idea or a huge paycheck away from a change of opinion on that, but for now, the eager dreams of fanboys and girls everywhere will have to lose just a little bit of luster.
