Ridley Scott says Neill Blomkamp’s Alien 5 will never see the light of day

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

Well, this is (kinda) sad news… Turns out ALIEN: COVENANT director Ridley Scott was out and about talking up the new ALIEN film and was eventually asked about the progress on DISTRICT 9 director Neill Blomkamp's rumored ALIEN 5.

Here is what Scott had to say regarding ALIEN 5:

I don't think it will ever see the light of day. There was never a script. Just an idea that evolved from a dozen or so pages. I had to participate as producer, but it didn't go farther because Fox decided it didn't want to do it. As far I was concerned, I had already done Prometheus and I was working on Covenant.

Well, I guess that is, unfortunately, that on ALIEN 5. This mixed with the news we last heard on the sequel by way of Blomkamp himself, when he took to Twitter to let us all know the chances for his ALIEN film were "slim", seems to be the final nail in the cool-sounding sequel's coffin.

That said, Sigourney Weaver was quoted a while back as saying:

It will happen, we have to wait until after Prometheus 2, I think… I certainly wish all the best for Prometheus 2, or whatever it's being called.

Granted, Weaver's comments were made long before ALIEN: COVENANT was even titled ALIEN: COVENANT, so no fault of her's if she spoke, perhaps, a bit too soon. I for one hope we get further adventures of Newt, Hicks, and, of course, Ripley, but if we are to believe the main ALIEN man himself, Ridley Scott, we might have to put those dreams to bed for a few more years, at least.

Scott's own ALIEN: COVENANT looks to be mucho good times so not all is lost by any means. I guess we'll see if we can get by on merely prequels to the original ALIEN, for now, once COVENANT finally hits theaters on May 19th.

If we're bringing back past ALIEN characters all willy-nilly, how about more Vickers?
