Looking back, I’m not quite sure how we haven’t covered that Ridley Scott is making a film out of Joe Haldeman’s sci-fi novel, THE FOREVER WAR, but that is supposedly happening, despite the fact that Scott has two ALIEN prequels, MONOPOLY and a YouTube movie to get to at some point.
But now this just might be his most interesting upcoming project, as according to author Halderman himself, Scott will be re-teaming with BLADE RUNNER writer David Peoples, who has also written such classics as UNFORGIVEN and TWELVE MONKEYS.
Obviously the two worked brilliantly together when last they met, way back in 1982, and teaming up for the same genre is certainly something to get excited about, though for some reason Peoples hasn’t written a thing in twelve years. What’s the plot, for those unfamiliar with the 1974 novel?
[The Forever War] tells the contemplative story of soldiers fighting an interstellar war between humanity and the enigmatic Tauran species [and has] pithy, insightful explorations of the inhumanity of war and of bureaucracy, and of the psychological effects resulting from time dilation space travel.
Sounds like a pretty complex work, and will probably be far more sophisticated than a few bouts of blaster fire. I really hope this is moving forward as Haldeman claims.
