Ridley Scott unleashes hell on the MPAA

Ridley Scott is mad as hell and has taken to the media to profess his dissatisfaction with the MPAA and the PROMETHEUS rating.

Here are Sir Ridley’s exact words from the London screening of PROMETHEUS footage: [F]ilms this year that have got PG-13 ratings — it’s absolutely f–king ludicrous…[the MPAA] should get it’s house in order.

Scott also recently said this to Empire: The question is, do you go for the PG-13, or do you go for what it should be, which is R? Financially it makes quite a difference, or the risk makes quite a difference, and yet you also have to apply the question — if you soften it, will you financially suffer? As opposed to just going for the throat and gambling. Essentially, it’s kinda R.

The MPAA has been slammed in recent weeks regarding their handling of the BULLY rating and many in the media and online have been decrying the antiquated ratings system.

My recent story on THE DARK KNIGHT RISES being rated PG-13 was very derisive amongst the Schmoes out there, but it definitely highlights how arbitrary the MPAA process is.  Some movies coast through without needing a single edit while others languish at the mercy of censors.  The MPAA also has the power to single handedly kill a movie by giving it an NC-17 (SHAME, BLUE VALENTINE).  The time has come for some new ratings that better fit our modern society.

What do you think about Ridley Scott’s take on the MPAA?
