About two weeks ago I nearly sprayed my shorts over the news that Cormac McCarthy’s inaugural screenplay, THE COUNSELOR, might possibly land in the comforting hands of Sir Ridley Scott. Well folks, we no longer have to dream…the shite’s become a reality. Ridley will direct THE COUNSELOR as his next feature.

In fact, Scott wants to get production underway on THE COUNSELOR as soon as May 1st. That makes for a whirlwind for Cormac, who just turned the script in last month. Talk about moving fast!

As you might imagine, a script this good is attracting top flight acting talent around town. Among the many actors who’ve read the script, word is Michael Fassbender (above) may have the fast track. He’s not only as “hot” as they come right now, he already has a working relationship with Scott having starred in PROMETHEUS. It seems only inevitable he get the part.

As for the meat and potatoes of said part:

Set the contemporary Southwest, The protagonist in The Counselor is a respected lawyer who thinks he can dip a toe in to the drug business without getting sucked down. It is a bad decision and he tries his best to survive it and get out of a desperate situation.

What do you think? Is Fassbender the right man for the gig or what? If THE COUNSELOR is being described as NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN on steroids…I’m not sure how anyone tops Javier Bardem’s Chigurgh. Not that the Counselor is a villain, but damn, how does one make a more lasting impression?

Go ahead and re-employ Charlize while you’re at it Ridley!
