You guys remember that badass trilogy that came out of the UK called RED RIDING? No, it had nothing to do with that hood or that damn wolf. This tilogy was about the disappearance and grisly murders of several young girls as well as police corruption in a British town. Yeah, pretty intense right?
Well it was announced a while ago that the great Ridley Scott would be helming a US remake of the trilogy. I’m talking a couple years ago. And only now are we finally getting an update on the project. Better late than never right? According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN scribe Jamie Vanderbilt has been tapped with the task of adapting David Pearce’s four novels.
Now I know what you’re asking yourself – THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN writer… Really? For a subject like this? Well worry not folks because Vanderbilt didn’t only pen SPIDER-MAN, oh no. He’s also the one that polished up the recent TOTAL RECALL remake as well as penned David Fincher’s ZODIAC, so the man has experience in this area. THE RED RIDING TRILOGY has always caught my eye, though I haven’t had a chance to see them yet. So I’m particularly stoked about this news.
Now unlike the UK versions, it seems Scott and company will be apadting the sprawling adventure into one film, rather than three. Seems like a whole lot to fit into one movie but the heart is going to do what the heart wants to do I suppose.
There’s no telling when this one will officially be getting underway but I’m sure once Vanderbilt bangs out that script we’ll know more. As always keep it here for all the RED RIDING updates that’re sure to come our way!
