Rmks: Fright & Hell

Bad news for all you fans of the “bloodsucker busters” 80’s classic FRIGHT NIGHT. It seems that the long-gestating remake that was being planned has now turned to dust. Or maybe this is good news to the fans. Regardless, I wrote an article on the proposed remake waaaaay back last March stating its current status and plot description—something about vamps hiding in an amusement park. It sounded pretty lame (for a FRIGHT NIGHT remake), so I’m not too surprised that the project has croaked.

Apparently there were several attempts at churning out a feasible script, but nothing ever rang true. Even the original’s director, Tom Holland, couldn’t find a positive way to work things out. No biggie. Personally, I don’t think a FRIGHT NIGHT remake was ever really necessary anyway (like most remakes).

However, to end this article on a positive note, it seems that Screen Gems’ proposed remake of the old college-pledges-in-a-mansion slasher HELL NIGHT (which we last reported on here) is still on and actually picking up steam. I’ve heard that producers are currently on the hunt for writers that can create a fresh spin on the 1981 original.
