Rob Liefeld’s BLOODSTRIKE has found a home with Adi Shankar’s 1984 Private Defense Contractors production company, who co-financed THE GREY, MACHINE GUN PREACHER, and the upcoming KILLING THEM SOFTLY. So, the point is, this seems legit.
BLOODSTRIKE, based on the Image comic launched in 1993, tells the story of a “Bloodstrike” unit, which consists of soldiers who have been enhanced with vampire blood, making them an elite fighting force.
No word on a creative team or casting, but having Shankar onboard may well get the project off the ground and onto movie screens, which is a feat Liefeld has been trying to accomplish with a number of properties, including DEADPOOL, one of the most wanted comic adaptations from fans that can’t seem to find wings.
Since I bought everything Image comics put to press in the early ’90’s, I’m sure I have the BLOODSTRIKE books sitting in a box somewhere, but it’s never been something I ever cared to open again. Hopefully, they find a good fit for a comic-to-screen translation, but I think a lot of that will hinge on who they hire to steer the ship.
