The Gang Gets Back Together
Adam Sandler is undeniably the ring leader of his clique from his early 90s class of Saturday Night Live. The comedy star has kept his group together for a number of projects and the Grown Ups franchise is basically an excuse for them to get together, have some fun and let the audience in on the madness. It was recently reported that Grown Ups 3 is materializing. The project is in the works at Netflix, with Happy Gilmore 2 director Kyle Newacheck set to helm from a script by Sandler and Tim Herlihy.
Rob Schneider is expected to be alongside his SNL alums in the new installment and he would post a pic to his social media (but, then, curiously delete it), teasing him and David Spade getting ready for the project. The post read, “Me and @DavidSpade getting our wardrobes together for ‘Grown Ups 3’.”
Grown Ups
The first film was released in 2010 and told the story of five lifelong friends who reunite decades later after learning about the death of their former coach. The film was trashed by critics but was a big success, grossing over $272 million worldwide. Naturally, a sequel quickly followed, with Grown Ups 2 hitting theaters in 2013. Like the first, it was absolutely panned by critics, but was another box office success, taking in over $247 million.
However, despite some talk, a third installment failed to materialize…until recently. Plot details for Grown Ups 3 are being kept under wraps, but these films are typically an excuse for Sandler to hang out with his friends and have a good time. In addition to Sandler, David Spade, Chris Rock, and Kevin James are expected to return for the threequel.
Time Out
Sandler has another project in the works at Netflix, as it was announced earlier this year that he would be starring in Time Out, a new film from Scott Cooper (Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere).
Taking inspiration from L’Emploi Du Temps by Laurent Cantet and Robin Campillo, the film “follows Vincent (Sandler), who after being fired from his job can’t bring himself to tell his wife and family. Rather than reveal the truth, he spins a web of lies to conceal his situation. He escalates his lies further when he creates an investment scheme and asks friends to contribute, and the deception threatens to overwhelm his life and his family.” The rest of the cast includes Dustin Hoffman, Willem Dafoe, Gaby Hoffman, F. Murray Abraham, Steve Zahn, and Adam Horowitz.
