Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison Productions is returning to animation for this year’s Leo, the trailer for which has dropped ahead of its November release.

In the trailer for Leo, we get a glimpse at the mundane existence of lizard Leo and turtle Squirtle, with the former having a crisis as he tries not only to escape from the school he’s trapped in as a class pet but find a reason for his existence.

Happy Madison has the following writeup for Leo“Actor and comedian Adam Sandler delivers signature laughs in this coming-of-age animated musical comedy about the last year of elementary school – as seen through the eyes of a class pet. Jaded 74-year-old lizard Leo (Sandler) has been stuck in the same Florida classroom for decades with his terrarium-mate turtle (Bill Burr). When he learns he only has one year left to live, he plans to escape to experience life on the outside but instead gets caught up in the problems of his anxious students — including an impossibly mean substitute teacher. It ends up being the strangest but most rewarding bucket list ever…”

Adam Sandler is no stranger to voice work, notably with Eight Crazy Nights (another Happy Madison production) and the first three Hotel Transylvania movies, so Leo should give him a fitting venue that he really doesn’t do all that often despite having a distinct voice.

Leo is directed by Robert Marianetti, Robert Smigel and David Wachtenheim. With that sort of lineup – the men all worked in the animation department on Saturday Night Live, in addition to having a number of other credits – Leo definitely has some nice prestige behind it. That Sandler and Smigel teamed for the screenplay (along with Paul Sado) will certainly be a perk for fans.

In addition to Sandler and Burr, the voice cast also includes Cecily Strong, Jason Alexander, Rob Schneider, the Sandman’s daughters Sadie and Sunny (and his wife Jackie), Heidi Gardner, Nick Swardson, and more.

Leo arrives on November 22nd, a perfect time to take the kids to the theater as they’ll be on Thanksgiving break.
