It was announced at San Diego Comic-Con that Ryan Gosling will star as Ghost Rider in a new Marvel movie directed by Shawn Levy, but what does Robert Downey Jr. think of all this?

Downey Jr. seems pleased with the idea of Gosling joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Ghost Rider, but he also suggested a fantastic potential team-up to Entertainment Weekly.
“I want him and Spider-Noir with Nic to come back in, and be a motorcycle and sidecar,” Downey said.
Of course, Nicolas Cage played Johnny Cage/Ghost Rider in two Ghost Rider movies, and there has often been talk of him reprising the role in the Marvel Multiverse, but having him return as Spider-Noir might be even better.

When Ryan Reynolds was busy assembling a legion of Marvel actors to make cameos in Deadpool & Wolverine, one of those options would have had Cage returning as Ghost Rider. Unfortunately, it didn’t pan out. “[Things] came to a conversation for sure,” Reynolds explained, “but no.“
Gosling Pitched Ghost Rider Himself
It’s no secret that Gosling has wanted to play Ghost Rider in the MCU for many years, and it sounds like he was the one who actually pushed it over the finish line.
“It was Gosling who had the vision,” Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige told Empire. “It was Gosling who had the pitch that won over Shawn, that had them come and pitch us this idea, which led to us on stage today.” The new Ghost Rider movie is slated to be released in 2028.
Marvel is Slowing Things Down
After the release of Avengers: Doomsday later this year, there will be no Marvel movie in theaters until the release of Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
Feige added that this is all by design, to get them back to focusing on quality rather than quantity. “A lot of it is a strategy we’ve talked about for a while, of focusing on quality,” he said. “We always try to focus on quality, but when quantity is so much, you get spread thin. We didn’t want to be spread thin, and the Avengers is as important as it comes. And Secret Wars… is a setup in and of itself to the future, to what’s next. So really, it was landing those two movies and setting up 2028, of which we’ve revealed two of them so far, Ghost Rider and Panther III.“
