Over at SyFy Portal, good ol’ George Romero chatted it up once again in the aftermath of the Haunt X Festival on DIARY OF THE DEAD, which is currently in post production and creeping ever so closer to that release date (whenever that may be). The interview isn’t as detailed as the one conducted by Dread Central, but it does cover some other stuff, like ‘Why zombies?’.

“I never thought of them as zombies in the classic sense,” explains Romero. “They were ghouls, flesh eaters.” Romero then went on to say that he got the idea for the original NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD script from Richard Matheson’s classic novel, ‘I Am Legend’. “I basically knocked it off,” he said. “where Matheson used vampires, I used flesh eaters.”

The interview also covers Romero’s love of SHAUN OF THE DEAD, his thoughts on horror, Masters of Horror (read: He’d love to do it if he had the time), and even Mister Rogers (yes, that Mister Rogers). Smack here for the interview.
