The legions of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO fans will find out in December just how well Rooney Mara embodies the character of rebellious hacker Lisbeth Salander, but filmmakers are already trying to lock up the actress for other high-profile projects.

For example, Twitch says that Mara is being “targeted” for the female lead in Spike Lee’s version of OLDBOY.

The brutal revenge tale already has Josh Brolin as a man seeking payback when he’s released from a mysterious 15-year imprisonment. Mara would play the young chef he falls for during the search for his captors.

Christian Bale is reportedly being sought to play the villain.

Lee and screenwriter Mark Protosevich (I AM LEGEND) are supposedly sticking closer to the manga source material, which was already adapted into a deservedly acclaimed film from South Korean director Park Chan-Wook.

Steven Spielberg and Will Smith had also once intended their own Americanized take on the dizzying story (after FAST AND FURIOUSes director Justin Lin departed).
