Did Rooney Mara’s role in A Nightmare on Elm Street almost make her quit acting?!

It’s no secret that Rooney Mara is currently tearing up the screen in David Fincher’s THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO. Hell she’s even up for a Golden Globe! But would you believe it if I told you this almost didn’t happen? Well I’m sure GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO still would’ve been made… but it almost missed it’s chance with Mara.

You see according to Entertainment Weekly the actress almost considered retiring after her performance in the abismal A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET remake. Don’t take my word for it though – Hear it from Mara herself:

“[After ELM STREET] I didn’t want to act anymore. I was like, this isn’t what I signed up for. If this is what my opportunities are going to be like, then I’m not that interested in acting. So I was very discouraged and disheartened. And then I got the Social Network script. That kind of inspired me.”

Thank you SOCIAL NETWORK. But that’s not the end of it! The actress touches more on the horrendous feature: “You kind of learn to self-sabotage with things you don’t want to get. Sometimes you don’t want to get something, but you do a really good job and you get in anyway. That’s kind of [what happened] with A Nightmare on Elm Street-I didn’t even really want it. And then I went in [to audition], and I was like, “Fuck. I definitely got that.”

Truth be told I’m surprised everyone in that flick hasn’t second-guessed their career after the end-product. Alas it seems things couldn’t be better in the world of Rooney Mara right now so I’m sure there’s some lesson to take out of this. Like sunny days are coming? Or something….
