Roth on Turistas

Since MySpace occupies a lot of news topics these days, why not add one more?

Over at Eli Roth’s page, the HOSTEL director posted that he was back in LA after finally wrapping the shoot on HOSTEL’s sequel, HOSTEL PART II. In addition, Roth says that he’ll be starting up a production blog for PART II over at MTV, which he says will go up “sometime this week”.

Roth also touches on the ads he’s received for TURISTAS bashing HOSTEL. First things first, Roth says that he was aware of TURISTAS while shooting HOSTEL. He knows TURISTAS writer, Michael Ross. Second, TURISTAS is not a ripoff of HOSTEL any more than HOSTEL is a ripoff of TURISTAS. “They shot right after us,” Roth explains, “but it’s just a coincidence we were making movies about Americans traveling in another country. For some reason FOX held onto the movie and released the film 11 months after us, but they were both shot fairly close to each other. FOX Atomic (which Roth calls the new ‘teen’ division of FOX) decided to use this film as their first release, and the film did not do well this weekend.”

Fitting how Roth burns FOX after they’ve been using his film as the proverbial red-headed stepchild. Serves them right for doing so. In the meantime, keep a lookout for Roth’s MTV blog.
