Besides the recent THE HILLS HAVE EYES, HOSTEL has been my favorite movie of the year, and was a pleasure to check out on the big screen. Today director Eli Roth sat down with iF Magazine to talk about the unrated version of HOSTEL hitting DVD soon, as well as a couple of his upcoming projects- namely HOSTEL 2 and CELL.


If you’re like me, then the thought of Roth and Stephen King joining forces is basically a wet dream coming true- minus the two sets of twins that would also be involved. But more importantly, I want to know where he’s going to take HOSTEL next- Thailand? Iceland? North Dakota? Here’s what he had to say:

Unlike the first HOSTEL, this one is not going to be a family movie. This one will have some blood in it and be a little darker and more violent. I have always wanted to see a sequel where it picks up with the next shot after the first one left off. I think the sequel should start off tonally where the last one left off.


That’s pretty much what I thought to myself when I walked out of HOSTEL: why that was such a pleasant family movie. NOT! Actually, I think the phrase “I’m never going to Slovacchia. Ever. F*ck that place” is what streamed out of my mouth. Either way, Roth promising more of the same but stepped up a notch is a relief- could you imagine a PG-13 HOSTEL? I’m sure the studio has asked at least once if it was a possibility. The bitches.
