With GRINDHOUSE currently underwhelming at the box office (and causing debates/fist-fights among genre-fans), you’d think that most directors prepared to benefit from its assumed success would be shelving plans for their GRINDHOUSE rip-offs right about now. Not faux-trailer auteur Eli Roth, who at the Saturn Awards told Collider that an upcoming project of his is TRAILER TRASH, a collection of fake movie trailers that will apparently string together to compose a feature film.
No clue as to how this is possible, or how it will be bearable to sit through 90 minutes of trailers, but Roth is determined to conquer this challenge and assures us he has a genius way of tying it all together. He basically sees it as an excuse to do “more Thanksgivings.” (Not to mention the fact that he mentions “Thanksgiving 2″ and “Hannukah” as among the possible entries.)
Roth, (who factors parking, dinner and babysitter-payoffs as among the reasons for GRINDHOUSE’s floppage at the box office) plans to work on TRAILER TRASH either before or during his adaptation of Stephen King’s CELL. Supposedly, Edgar Wright and make-up guru Greg Nicotero are anxious to join the party.
