Rumor: A major Batman character may be dead before Batman v Superman begins

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

We already know that BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE is going to present the Caped Crusader in a way we have never seen before. Unlike either the Tim Burton or Christopher Nolan takes on Batman, Zack Snyder‘s version is going to present the Dark Knight a long way into his crime-fighting career. According to Badass Digest, BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE will be set 17 years into Batman’s career.

In almost two decades, a lot can happen to a character. In fact, if we look at the casualties in Nolan’s trilogy, a lot can happen in less time than that. Still, where we find Bruce Wayne in BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE is going to speak quite a bit to his state of mind as a superhero. If this rumor is to be believed, this may include the death of a major supporting character in Batman’s life. If you want to know the details, scroll past the cast of Batman characters below.

In this continuity James Gordon has, at some point in the past, bitten the dust. How and at whose hands I cannot tell you – all that’s noted in the script is that there’s a memorial plaque to James Gordon. This explains why the role wasn’t cast for the film, at least.

While we have no idea what the future holds for solo Batman films in the new DC Cinematic Universe, killing off Gordon still seems like a big deal. Gary Oldman‘s take on the character was much more significant in the Nolan films that the original film series and the character is central of FOX’s GOTHAM, but maybe he just doesn’t factor into plans for the new movies. It seems like a missed opportunity to me as I really like the character, but hopefully there is more planned for the future.

BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE is slated to open on March 25, 2016.
