Rumor: Angelina Jolie might be the new Bride of Frankenstein!

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

I've been on record about rooting for Universal's DARK UNIVERSE experiment, despite my misgivings of its debut effort, THE MUMMY. For instance, I am definitely intrigued about its proposed second movie, BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN directed by Bill Condon and starring Javier Bardem as Frankenstein's monster.

But that raises the question: who's going to play the eponymous Bride? Well, in keeping with the current tradition of Universal reaching for the biggest stars – which already includes heavy hitters like Tom Cruise, Russell Crowe, Johnny Depp, and the aforementioned Bardem (not to mention courting The Rock for WOLFMAN) – the studio has currently set it sights on none other than Angelina Jolie. Which is honestly such a perfect it comes off as pandering.

Now, no official deal has been struck, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, it does seem like Jolie's the studio's first pick. The article also mentioned some more insight on the proposed universe, such as the fact that Tom Cruise's Nick Morton character is expected to appear in multiple films, and that "insiders say a $40 million box-office weekend (plus a strong overseas haul) would be enough to move forward with the universe as planned", though sources indicate the studio is worried about its chances.

So what about you Schomes? You down for Jolie donning the iconic 'do? Either way, sound off below!

Meanwhile, BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN is the only other movie besides THE MUMMY (coming out June 9th) to have a release date, February 14th, 2019 – the perfect date movie for Valentine's. However, we'll see how well the studio sticks to it.
