There don’t tend to be many rumors these days unless they are related to either BATMAN VS SUPERMAN or STAR WARS: EPISODE VII. Both films are highly anticipated, but Disney and Lucasfilm have given us absolutely nothing official in the way of casting or plot for the first new STAR WARS film in a decade. So, forgive us if we cling to every rumor, especially if they cite “official sources”. But, this latest rumor seems to be gaining steam on the interwebs.

According to Ain’t It Cool News honcho Harry Knowles, it seems that one of the new stars of STAR WARS: EPISODE VII may in fact be the new face in another science fiction franchise. He claims that Jack Reynor, co-star in Michael Bay‘s TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION has been tapped for an undisclosed role in STAR WARS: EPISODE VII.

There are two camps regarding this casting. On one side, the age and anonymity of Reynor makes him perfect for STAR WARS: EPISODE VII. He can blend in by not overpowering the other performers and own his role, whatever it may be. On the other side, that anonymity may disappear once TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION is released. That, of course, assumes that the fourth TRANSFORMERS ends up being a success.

How ever this ends up, STAR WARS: EPISODE VII is likely going to feature a mix of established and rookie performers. For now, add Reynor’s name to the list of rumored names that includes Gary Oldman, Saoirse Ronan, Jack O’Connell, Benedict Cumberbatch, Zac Efron, Michael Fassbesnder, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael B. Jordan, Alex Pettyfer, Sullivan Stapleton and Jesse Plemons.

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII hits theaters December 18, 2015.
