THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA will be making its Blu-ray debut later this year courtesy of Milestone Films, with Image Entertainment handling distribution. A specific release date has not yet been revealed, but it’s expected out in early October. We’ll keep you updated.
The release will feature two complete runs of the 1929 version of the film, as well as a standard definition transfer of the original 1925 edit of the film from a tinted 16mm print. Extras will include set construction and production stills, publicity stills, original advertising art, frames from a stencil-colored French release, and the complete script.
The classic silent film is directed by Rupert Julian, although uncredited input from Ernst Laemmle, Edward Sedgwick and star Lon Chaney has been suggested. Chaney appears as Erik, The Phantom, alongside Mary Philbin, Norman Kerry, Arthur Edmund Carewe and Gibson Gowland.
