Russell Crowe to learn kung-fu with RZA?

JoBloJoBlo

UPDATE: Maybe not so fast. According to this post on Russell Crowe’s Twitter, “I’m not officially on RZA’s gig. He’s a good friend, inspirational guy, we will see what happens.”

9.14.10: Rapper/actor RZA had quite an announcement to make on the red carpet at the VMAs. His pet project that he’s directing and acting in, THE MAN WITH THE IRON FIST just got a whole lot more credible as he claims that Russell Crowe will now be costarring as well.

“I won’t spoil it for you, but Russell’s gonna be the baddest man alive,” he told me yesterday at the VMAs. “That man is in fighting shape. That man will knock you out.” The Man With the Iron Fist (no relation to the Marvel Comic superhero Iron Fist) starts shooting in Shanghai in December.

“It’s nerve-wracking,” RZA said of directing Crowe. “He’s a master of the craft. I’m quite sure that I may learn something from him.”

Despite seeming initially far-fetched, this seems legitimate to me, as I’m not sure why he would make this up, and it’s not as far-fetched as you might imagine, as if you recall, RZA and Crowe worked together on AMERICAN GANGSTER years go.

Not to uh, rain on the parade here, but have you seen Russell Crowe recently? The man isn’t exactly in fighting shape, and I expect he’s going to need to do a lot of work to get back into full combat mode.

In addition to Crowe, the project is being helped along by Quentin Tarantino and Eli Roth, and Roth is even now a co-writer and producer on the film. With a $20M budget, and all
