Russell Crowe to star in horror film produced by Kevin Williamson

The Mummy Russell Crowe

It looks like Russell Crowe is having fun diving into genre work. Following his appearance as Doctor Jekyll and Mister Hyde in 2017's THE MUMMY (pictured above), he has played a raging maniac in the recently wrapped road rage thriller UNHINGED (coming to theatres on August 28, 2020), and now he has signed on to star in a supernatural thriller for Miramax and producer Kevin Williamson.

Williamson is best known for his writing, having started his career with the screenplay for SCREAM, but he is not writing this project. The script has been written by Joshua John Miller and M.A. Fortin, and the duo will also be directing the film.

Miller and Fortin previously wrote THE FINAL GIRLS and developed the USA television series Queen of the South. Genre fans may remember Miller from his days as a child actor, when he appeared in such films as HALLOWEEN III, RIVER'S EDGE, NEAR DARK, TEEN WITCH, CLASS OF 1999, and DEATH WARRANT.

In Miller and Fortin's currently untitled film, Crowe will be playing

a troubled actor who begins to unravel while shooting a horror film. His estranged daughter wonders if he’s slipping back into his past addictions or if there's something more sinister at play.

Williamson will be producing the film with Ben Fast of his company Outerbanks, and with Miramax's Bill Block.

Crowe starring in a horror film from an interesting creative team has my attention. I look forward to seeing how this turns out.
