Victor Salva is a busy man lately (and not because he owns a petting zoo)… You probably know by now he’s preparing to direct two new JEEPERS CREEPERS films, and he’s also written one of NBC’s FEAR ITSELF episodes, the John Landis-directed IN SICKNESS AND IN HEALTH (premiering June 26).
In an interview with Fangoria, Salva reveals that the episode was originally supposed to be part of a different anthology show, one that he and author Del Howison have been cooking up. Here’s what he had to say:
“I’ve been writing for the past year now for my own anthology horror series, DARK DELICACIES,” he reveals, “created with my partner Del Howison and based on his award-winning book and horror store of the same name. Clive Barker will be our onscreen host for a show that’ll be a great cross between TWILIGHT ZONE, THRILLER, OUTER LIMITS and ALFRED HITCHCOCK PRESENTS. While Del and I are still shopping the show around, NBC asked for the IN SICKNESS episode I had written for us to do, but I was only too happy to see John Landis and NBC take it and make it their own for what I’m hoping is the beginning of a new surge of horror TV.”
DARK DELICACIES had a previous incarnation as a book, edited by Howison, featuring the writings of such renowned authors as Clive Barker, Ray Bradbury, Ramsey Campbell, Brian Lumley, Joe Lansdale, Whitley Streiber, F. Paul Wilson, among others. That’s pretty good talent right there; if this thing gets off the ground and onto the airwaves, let’s hope the same names pop up!
