If you read my article about being on the set of A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET (and really, you should have, your life depends on it) you’ll recall that I never got a chance to talk with director Samuel Bayer, who was there but conspicuously unavailable for interviews. (Like I said in the article, maybe I’m just being a conspiracy theorist, but I’ve never been on a set where the director didn’t give at least a few minutes over to the visiting journalists.)
Those lucky mothers at Slashfilm did get to talk to Bayer, however, and at one point the chatter turned to a possible NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET sequel, which is pretty much inevitable. For his part, Bayer isn’t down.
“I really hope the film does well. I will not be involved in a sequel…I don’t want to have my next movie be a horror movie. I’m already looking at stuff and I think I’m probably going to do a– it might be an action movie, or there’s a comic book they want to make into a film I’m very attracted to. But I think I’m going to move on and let someone else handle the next one, and it’ll be great.”
Understandable. Bayer seems to be very intrigued by the aforementioned comic book adaptation, although he doesn’t spill the beans on just which one (or isn’t allowed to). To read a bit more, head on over to Slashfilm.
