Samuel L. Jackson to appear as Nick Fury in Captain Marvel

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Good afternoon, true believers! It's time to take your long, black trench to the cleaners and adjust your favorite eye-patch, because we just got word that Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury will be joining the character cast of Marvel's CAPTAIN MARVEL!

If you recall, the last time we checked in with Fury, he was still pretty banged up in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, after being in a car accident, shot, and hospitalized during the events of CAPTAIN AMERICA: WINTER SOLDIER. Jackson is set to join directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck for Marvel's first female-led feature presentation starring Brie Larson as Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel.

Captain Marvel was re-introduced to comic book readers in July of 2012 thanks to a badass (and personal friend of mine) in spiked wedge-heels named Kelly-Sue Deconnick. Carol Danvers took on the name of Captain Marvel as a tribute to the original character, who'd died of cancer in a 1982-published graphic novel. The title Ms. Marvel is now held by Kamala Khan, a young, Muslim woman superhero from Jersey who can embiggen herself to heroic proportions. So far, CAPTAIN MARVEL is on schedule to arrive on March 8, 2019. Like many people, I'm hoping that Carol's debut isn't pushed back, after having been shifted around to suit the needs of other Marvel film release obligations.
