Sarah Gadon, Eili Harboe face something worse than death in The Northwoods

Writer/director Emma Higgins' film THE NORTHWOODS is a Canadian/Norwegian co-production, so it seems quite fitting that one of the two lead actresses is Canadian and the other is Norwegian.

The Canadian of the two is Sarah Gadon, who was in the most recent season of True Detective and whose genre credits include THE MOTH DIARIES, DREAM HOUSE, ANTIVIRAL, DRACULA UNTOLD, and the Stephen King adaptation 11.22.63.

Gadon's Norwegian co-star is Eili Harboe (pictured above), best known for taking on the title role in the 2017 film THELMA. THE NORTHWOODS will be her English-language debut.

The film will mark the feature debut for Higgins, who has earned attention and accolades for her work directing music videos. The story Higgins has crafted has the following synopsis:

Returning home for the first time since their mother’s tragic passing, Sonya (Gadon) and Aly (Harboe) decide to reconnect on a trek of the vast Norwegian fjords. When their guide mysteriously disappears, the two sisters quickly realize that trying to outrun the horrors of their past is just as futile as escaping what is waiting in the darkness. As the ill-fated hikers struggle for their very lives, they begin to realize that something much worse than death lurks in the depths of the woods.

I'm intrigued to find out what this "something much worse than death" actually is.

THE NORTHWOODS is being produced by Dave Hudakoc of levelFILM, Einar Loftesnes of Handmade Films In Norwegian Woods, Daniel Quinn, Jeff Pangman, and Evan Landry. Paul Barkin of Alcina Pictures and Clay Epstein of Film Mode Entertainment are executive producing.

THE NORTHWOODS will be filming in Canada and northern Norway.
