What the f*ck?! I think it’s completely safe to say nobody saw this coming! Remember last week when I told you all that SAW VI director Kevin Greutert was being tapped to director PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2 for Paramount? Well throw that sh*t right out the window!
According to Deadline Hollywood Lionsgate have gone and exercised an option they had on Kevin Greutert’s contract that would bring the director back for SAW VII 3D! I’m not joking folks. Lionsgate have just snuck up and completely stole Kevin Greutert, leaving both Paramount and director David Hackl, who was already on board to direct SAW VII, out in the dark. Let that sink in for a minute…
This SAW vs PARANORMAL ACTIVITY thing is getting out of hand… Out of hand and pretty awesome. Seeing studios go back and forth like this is pretty cool… but I highly doubt we’ll get good films from this. Everyone knows their numbers are going to be awesome thanks to all this drama but the actual quality of the flicks? Ouch. Not to say Kevin Greutert isn’t talented. That’s the thing, Greutert is VERY talented. People dug SAW VI and were excited to see PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2 once his name got attached… but what now? Will Greutert tackle SAW VII 3D with the same enthusiasm knowing the only reason he’s doing it is to keep him from PA 2? Or perhaps Lionsgate and Greutert had these intentions the whole time? Needless to say this thing is a mess.
In a blog post titled, “Yes Virginia, There is Evil in the World,” Greutert said: “I was told that my metaphor describing my feelings right now was in excessively poor taste, so let’s just say I’m pissed.”
Greutert had described the situation this way: “If you’ve ever been raped by your dad, then you now how I feel right now.”

Word is Lionsgate are planning on slapping Hackl on another film quickly, so no worries for him. Both SAW VII 3D and PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2 are still looking at an October 22nd release date so these things better sort out quickly! Now the obvious question: Who directs PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2? Oren Peli anybody?
