Just caught wind of this independent horror and although the cast and a major portion of its plot is being kept secret, what’s been revealed thus far is kind of intriguing. The flick, from writer/director Joseph Bat, is simply called SCARECROW and yes, I know you’ve already seen your fair share of b-horror with cornfield killers. But I still feel that this one may have something unique to offer. Apparently there is an old superstition regarding scarecrows from which Mr. Bat is applying to his film. Check it:
If a scarecrow falls off its cross on All Hallow’s Eve and touches the ground, it can be possessed by a spirit. Embodied in the scarecrow’s primitive human shape, the resurrected spirit can then proceed to settle scores left unresolved before death.
Maybe my head’s full of straw, but I think that sounds pretty damn cool. “Scarecrows are godlike in Asian myth,” Bat has said. Seeing as how most scarecrows look like they’ve been crucified to a cross, I can see where Mr. Bat is coming from, regarding a somewhat religious configuration. Which brings us to another tidbit of the plot:
An evil scarecrow becomes resurrected, however a second scarecrow will be imbued with the spirit of goodness and the stage will be set for the fateful battle.
So we’re talking TWO undead scarecrows duking it out? Hell yeah! That sounds fantastic! SCARECROW will be releasing in Australia towards the end of the year. No word yet on a U.S. release, but hopefully that will change. For now, you can check out the official site for more, however not much info is given away. But you will be able to watch its creepy trailer.
