When was the last time you were sitting around, talking horror legends with your buddies, and the name of the great horror director Rob Schmidt came up. Anything? Probably not… cause let’s face it, the guy’s not a legendary director by any means- in fact, I bet you didn’t even know it’s the guy behind the widely successful WRONG TURN. Well, he is. He then followed that up with a MASTERS OF HORROR episode called RIGHT TO DIE, which just hit DVD stands this week. Is that a little bizarre to anyone else? All of a sudden, the guy’s a ‘Master’ of horror, with all of one ‘ok’ horror flick under his belt???
Anyway, enough with the soap box. This has nothing to do with being a master of horror, but it does have to deal with Schmidt, who just signed up to direct BAD MEAT for Tiger Aspect Pictures. According to The Hollywood Reporter, MEAT is a gore-filled flick centering on troubled teens who send their parents to boot camp, only to find the tables have turned on them. Sounds like a perfect vehicle for Schmidt to direct! While I didn’t dig into WRONG TURN, one thing’s undeniable: it had lots of gore and it knew how to use it!
Not much else is known about the project, other than it’s also being called a comic horror film, which is pretty ambiguous. Is it comedic? Is it based on a comic? I don’t know! Stick around for more news on BAD MEAT as we hear it, and look for Schmidt’s latest flick THE ALPHABET KILLER, starring the ever hot Eliza Dushku, sometime in the future.
