So far, for me the biggest draw of Jeff Nichols' John Carpenter tribute MIDNIGHT SPECIAL is by far its music. The pounding driving score is a perfect evocation of the electric anthems provided for Carpenter's early work in the 70's and 80's. That's enough to get my butt in the seat, but if you need more, check out the new trailer for the film, which exposes a little more of the plot, but not quite enough to keep it from being trippy as hell.
